Regarding the instrumentation of Barnagar B. Ed. College, one has to look back to 11.08.1996 when the local MLA, 40 Sorbhog LAC, Assam, Sri Hemen Das, convened a general meeting and put a proposal to institute a B. Ed. College under the aegis of Barnagar Educational Training and Development Society. To this effect a Governing Body was instituted taking Sri Hemen Das as President. Sri Manoranjan Bhuyan, Retd. Head Master of Rupshi High School and Sri Hiren Mazumdar, Rtd. Lecturer of Barnagar College, were selected as Working President and Secretary respectively. Other honourable members always active to name is Sri Manoranjan Talukdar.
The President and Local MLA Sri Hemen Das sanctioned a sum of Rs. 7.5 lacs to the institution from his MLA LAD Fund. 5 bighas of Govt. land were allotted for the college. Thus permanent construction began. In 1997 trainees were admitted and vitally classes started with 120 trainees. The faculty members were appointed in accordance with NCTE Norms.
Later, when permanent building was constructed, various inspections, from Assam Govt., Gauhati University and NCTE were conducted. Having positive note from their end, the institution ran with top gear.
Under a revision of NCTE norms the intake capacity of trainees were limited to 50. Then a financial crisis sprang up. But the institution was luckily enough to have a local MLA who was himself an Educationist, Engineers, Social Activist who sanctioned Rs. 5 lacs to the institution. This earnest effort reduced the financial crisis.
Along with B. Ed. course, D. El. Ed. course (at least 100 trainees) also running (temporarily) for the last three years under KKHSOU deputed by Govt. of Assam.
Till date, the institution, though not taken up by Govt. of Assam is running with full satisfaction to the trainees and particular local demand for trained teachers in general. We are looking forward to develop this to a class one institution with all current day instructional facilities as well as intellectual uplift men.
